Steelscape Paint & Steel Coil Storage Warehouses

Steelscape, a national supplier of metallic-coated and pre-painted steel, has a production facility on 162 acres of land owned by the Port of Kalama. The existing facility is comprised of warehouses, office buildings, parking lots, lay down yards, and both gravel and paved access roads. Gibbs & Olson worked with Collins Architectural Group to design a new 18,000 square foot paint warehouse and a 34,000 square foot steel coil storage warehouse with an 11,000 square foot attached covered loading dock, as well as stormwater, water, sanitary sewer, and access improvements. Stormwater from the site is collected with catch basins and treated using an Aqua Swirl Hydrodynamic separator, filter strips and a continuous inflow biofiltration swale. Treated stormwater will be conveyed to an infiltration pond. As part of preparing the site identified for the Northwest Innovation Works methanol production facility, the new warehouses will allow the Port of Kalama to demolish an existing warehouse currently utilized by Steelscape. Gibbs & Olson and Collins prepared 30% complete design work for the site work and the buildings. This work was utilized to prepare a construction cost estimate and for final budgeting and funding for final design and construction.
